Organoleptic Characteristics
Dark ruby in colour, with a richly aromatic and savoury character. Chocolate and sweet cherry impressions predominate in its aroma. Its flavour combines the strong tannins of the Merlot with the milder disposition of the Aghiorgitiko to yield a complex texture and subtle aftertaste with notes of vanilla and cinnamon.
The big E on the label — the Greek letter Epsilon— stands for ΕΡΥΘΡΟ (“Erythrό”) meaning Red. With this creative blend of Aghiorgitiko and Merlot, the A. Megapanos Winery inaugurates a new line of wines with a typically New World character. Emancipated from any strict geographical or traditional identity, these simple, everyday wines — products of sophisticated winemaking techniques —aspire to offer a straightforward pleasure to a wide public at affordable prices.
TECHNICAL PROPERTIES
The winemaking process involves classic vinification in red of the discrete grape varieties. Alcoholic fermentation occurs in stainless steel tanks at temperatures of 22-270C and is followed by malolactic conversion which adds a characteristic velvety texture. The blend components are an Aghiorgitiko from the Nemea region aged for one year in oak barrels and a fresh Merlot from a model vineyard in the environs of Spata.
